REPORTING JOURNEY

Anna talks with one of her editors, Brad Tyer, at Montana Free Press in a series titled “Reporting Journey.” In this behind-the-scenes conversation, “Beyond Reviews: Creating Community and the Role of Arts Journalism in Montana.” The pair discussed arts journalism and how it can reflect and impact Montana’s communities and the evolving the role of criticism beyond reviews and responding to the changing state of arts throughout their communities.

PREVIEW SCREENING, ‘OUT OF THE PICTURE’

The preview screening of “Out of the Picture” was held at the Smithsonian American Art Museum on November 11. The documentary is a decade-long pursuit by first-time filmmaker Mary Louise Schumacher to document and share the decline of arts journalism in the United States and what it means to artists, journalists, and the communities they serve. Anna was interviewed for the project during her time at the Billings Gazette and was one of the arts and culture writers mentioned in the film.

Performance inside TOMB, a sculpture by Phoebe Knapp and homage to irrational number phi. Collaboration with Lee Below, Lea Fallow (sound project of Anna Paige), Matt Taggart, and Jon Lodge for a performance that incorporates violin, spoken word poetry, ambient drone, and amplified sound.

Storytelling through Art & Dance

World Premiere of The Great Race, created by Lame Deer High School students in collaboration with Thresh First Voices, building an archive of First Nations storytelling for future generations.

The premiere featured students’ interpretation of the ancient Northern Cheyenne story told through art, narrative, and choreography, accompanied by a panel discussion by Anna Paige with students and artists, and exploration of intertribal collaboration.
